Have you ever imagined how impossible it is for water and oil to mix together? In chemistry, they are called immiscible liquids, and in relationship terms, you’d say they’re not compatible.
Similarly, there are some people you can’t live with in marriage, even if you have mutual chemistry or other things made it look like you’re a good match.
Many singles ignore the major things that guarantee making the right choice on whom to marry, but minor on the major. You can’t marry the right person when you disregard the “weightier matters” and focus on the less important issues.
We all have our own different preferences when it comes to making choices, and it’s good to have one. If you want a blissful and successful Christian home, then your major compatibility checklist must be that of agreements in spiritual belief alongside what God said.
What do you think would happen to Joseph when Mary told him angel Gabriel said she would give birth to Jesus without natural conception? Assuming you’re Joseph and you don’t believe in the existence of angels and their interactions with humans, would you have married her while courting or wait until she births the holy child before you know her intimately?
As agreement, connections, or shared values are important in the business world, compatibility is equally important when you’re on the verge of making the right decision on who to marry.
Don’t just marry someone who professes what you believe; consider marrying someone who practices and understands what your spiritual beliefs are.
Two people can only walk (and work) together when they agree (are compatible). It’s not enough that you share similar beliefs physically, financially, mentally, or socially. If you want a home where God is fully involved and his principles are embraced in running the marriage, then you should not downplay spiritual compatibility.
Beyond your educational qualifications and certifications, personality impression, financial worth, possession or social status, don’t sweep your spiritual compatibility under the carpet because you’d need it someday; except you don’t want a home where God becomes the Alpha and Omega.
God’s angel appeared first to Mary, and while Joseph was thinking about how to put her away because she was pregnant with a holy child, the angel appeared to him in a dream. Angels don’t appear to ordinary people, and if they do, you may not know it because you can’t discern them.
When there’s no spiritual compatibility, there will be conflicts in your beliefs and practices. When you marry someone you’re not in agreement with each other, when issues come up in marriage where your spiritual maturity is tested, things will fall apart between the two of you.
It is more than we’re both Christians, or we attend the same church. Are you both on the same page in spiritual understanding or is the other person teachable to grow up spiritually? Don’t benchmark your compatibility checklist on mundane things; pay attention to your spiritual beliefs and values.
Remember, two can only walk together now and in the future when they are in agreement.
