Gone are the days when people marry because they want a husband or wife, in this age, the reasons for getting married have been westernized and bastardized. I can imagine how God would feel in heaven when He sees how people have destroyed the institution He created for lack of knowledge.
Why God created marriage for Adam was because, “It wasn’t good that he should be alone,” and for the woman, she was to be a man’s “Help meet.” Unfortunately, the reasons why people now marry have deviated from God’s original design.
As the world is fast approaching its end, did you know that people’s reason for marriage has shifted from sex (they can get it anywhere, anytime), babies (new scientific innovations have created several options to having them without marriage), or love (many don’t believe it exists anymore), and so on to ephemeral things?
So, why do you want to be married? Some of the reasons why people now marry are stated below.
Myopic men marry because they want to control a woman. These men marry because they don’t have what it takes to naturally earn submission from a woman. They want to be in control of a woman’s money, life, and destiny by getting married to her.
This kind of man demands submission and throws it at their face should they fail to do it. At every dent in their ego, they shout, “Submit, submit” because they wanted to be in charge.
Some women too marry because they want to be in control. Because they grew up as an independent female, they believe that would continue in the marriage. They want to bark out orders and assume the role of a man in their marriages.
There is a biblical order God created in marriage. The husband is the head, not the boss, and the woman is to submit to him as unto the Lord. If you marry because you want to be in control, then you’re getting married for the wrong reason.
Naturally, men and women are driven by fame. Almost everyone wants to be known or recognized as an important person in society.
You’ll see some women who want to be married or in a relationship with men who are influencers because they love the prestige and accolades that come with it.
There are men too who want to associate with people of timber and caliber, and this would push them to marry rich ladies. Love isn’t the basis for why they’re getting married and their marriage would be bankrupt of it.
If you marry for fame, you’ll be surprised when the outcome of your choice dawns on you.
“Who no like better thing” is usually the rationale behind those who marry for money. The truth is that when you marry for mundane reasons, that becomes the foundation of your marriage.
Meanwhile, anything built on a bad foundation can never stand the test of time. Money is good, but that should be the least of the reasons why you want to be married.
Many people are married to rich partners, but their marriages are bereft of those basic things a blissful and successful marriage should have. They have money, but no affection, attention, companionship, or oneness.
Remember, money can give you a great wedding and a prestigious honeymoon, but not a happy home.
With money comes some form of security. The reason for marriage to some is solely for financial security. They care less about the emotional, spiritual, and mental security that is essential to their well-being in marriage.
This is why they don’t bother becoming a baby mama or papa for as long as they are financially secure. As ladies, they’ll tell you I can’t manage with a man who isn’t financially buoyant, even if the man has a vision that would make him great in no distant future. They want financial security now.
Whether it’s for control, fame, money, or security, every reason why you want to get married has its consequences. Marriage has become what it is today because many have deviated from God’s original design.
You can’t have it God’s blessing in your marriage if you do it the world’s way. Your marriage can’t be a kingdom marriage if it was built on any of those mundane reasons.
If you want a kingdom marriage, then your reasons for marriage should be different from the reasons listed above. The devil is never threatened when unbelievers marry because he knows they would advance his cause, but if you want a kingdom marriage, you must marry for the right reason.
Marriage remains a honorable institution even if celebrities, monarchs, men of God, or ordinary people have desecrated and abused its purpose. If you want to enjoy your marriage the way God intends, follow His blueprint.
So, why do you want to be married, or why are you married?
