“There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is the way of death (destruction).” The Proverbs of Solomon.
God created us as social animals. Thus, the need to connect with others or to have a specific person to feel connected to is built into everyone, and it’s not only a function of cultural or societal influence.
Despite the fact that there are many other people in our lives, we all want that “special” person with whom we can converse and have private interactions. The pursuit of this link led to the establishment of marriage.
God instituted marriage, not to cure sexual temptation or to make babies alone. Marriage was primarily created for a helpmeet to help a helper who is doing something that is worth being helped. However, the ignorance of this truth has led to the birth of several ungodly relationships, such as boyfriend and girlfriend, and contract marriages (baby mama and papa), cohabitation, amongst others.
While it’s not against the law for single people to wish to befriend someone of the other sex, there are godly paths to take if you want to do it correctly. What do these paths entail?
A man who fails to find his true self but seeks to find a partner would be lost in the process.
Have you discovered yourself?
You need to understand why God created you before you start a relationship. Relationships offer a goal that transcends basic satisfaction. If a relationship did nothing other than satisfy your sensual cravings and didn’t ignite your greatness, it would ruin you.
Before seeking a partner, discover God’s purpose for your life. Recognize why? If you don’t, you’ll be putting your own life and the aim of the partnership in danger. With a decent (godly) relationship, your life ought to be better than it is right now.
Always keep in mind that abuse is unavoidable when the aim of anything is unknown. In an ungodly relationship, you would ruin your life if you didn’t know what you were made for and what you should live for.
Never make light of the following issue if you really must be in a relationship.
Why should I pray before I have a friend?
There are some friends that enter your life with their bad influences, and if you aren’t resilient enough to fend them off, you’ll be destroyed.
Samson was in a relationship with Delilah while he had no idea that his source of power would be destroyed. Be cautious while pitching your tent with anyone for a relationship since some might not have your best interests in mind.
Choose your friends or your spouse prayerfully. God should be consulted earlier rather than later when things are already in disarray. There are certain folks that shouldn’t enter your life at all. It’s wisdom to do this, not arrogance.
He that walks with the wise shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed. It is better not to have ungodly friends than to seek salvation after you have been dragged into the quagmire of ungodliness.
Before you let someone into your life, get to know them beyond superficial knowledge.
