This Thing Called The Will of God in Marriage

Read Time: 4 mins

I woke up this morning with this title dropped in my spirit, and I believe that you will be blessed by reading it. Knowing the will of God takes time, doing the will of God makes you look silly because of your preference, expectations of men, and your prejudices, but trust me, it’s so rewarding here and in eternity.
There are two kinds of believers when it comes to the will of God, those who want God to endorse their will and those who want to do nothing but His will.
That a person is God’s will for you doesn’t make them a perfect spouse, you also need to work on yourself and on them to make your marriage successful. You can’t compare your marriage with others and have a successful marriage, you will only be frustrated and discontented.
However, there are two kinds of the will of God, the permissible and the revealed will of God. The revealed will of God is known through the scripture (Bible) or by divine revelation. Whatever the will of God is won’t contradict the written word of God.
It’s not the will of God for a believer to marry an unbeliever, that people does that and it works for them doesn’t mean it’s God’s will, He only permitted it.
Waiting for the will of God maritally makes you look stupid to people. You know why? They will tell you that God no longer matchmake because Adam blamed Him when He gave him the woman. Pick or find someone you love, and who loves you, then pray to God about it. Simple, abi?
But the truth is that God is still at the business of matchmaking His children, but He will never force you to do His will.
God’s will may not come from your tribe, church or class, nor suit your taste; pull down the idols you have built in your mind. God doesn’t think, look or do things the way humans do things. His ways are not your ways, neither His thoughts your thoughts.
Some people would tell you that the Bible says that God will grant you the desires of your heart. Does this mean that God will give me what I want? It’s not always so. Most people who opted for God’s will do not always have all their preferences met, and the truth is that they don’t regret doing it afterwards.
God can only grant you the desires of your heart when your heart align to His will.
Beloved, the will of God is hard to accept because our flesh wars against His Spirit, and vice versa. Do you think Jesus easily drank the cup of suffering for the sins of the world?
At the garden of Gethsemane, He prayed earnestly for God to take away the cup from Him when He saw how bitter to the soul it was, but nevertheless, that His will should be done. Alas, an angel of God appeared to Him and strengthen Him to do His will.
You need strength in your inner man to do His will, but if it’s your own will, you don’t even need God, let alone His grace. There are people who have good marriages without marrying in the will of God. But this kind of marriage cannot add value to God’s kingdom and purpose on earth.
Is God’s will easy to accept? N-O, NO!
God can matchmake a male medical doctor to marry a local girl who only had secondary school certificate. He can place a sister who is highly read, influenced and successful with a brother that doesn’t know how to read and write.
Is He wicked for doing so? Never!
The Bible says He sits in heaven and does what He will, who can query Him? And mind you, we are created for His pleasure.
See, accepting God’s will is very difficult based on the strength of the flesh but it’s worth it in the long run. What makes it difficult is your pride, prejudice, idols, comparison, and the opinion of men or parental influence.
Because God’s will is not palatable, many have missed it maritally, and some have wrongly married because of their wrong ideology about the will of God.
If you tell God you don’t want His will, He will definitely give you another one, but only you can know what you missed in eternity when He showed you what you could have achieved by embracing His will.
God won’t force you to accept His will because His Spirit no longer strive with man anymore. It is up to you to be broken so you can accept His will.
Does the will of God guarantee a successful marriage?
No!
Marriage is a selfless union of two forgivers, imperfect persons who are willing to make their marriage work. Marriage won’t be successful if you don’t do what people who have successful marriage does. The definition of successful marriage is not just in having no arguments or quarrels, it is not in living together as husband and wife for years, it’s not even in raising children till you become grandparents; successful marriage in God’s definition is a marriage where His purpose is fulfilled, and His kingdom is promoted by the partners in such union.
The former is good, but the latter is the best.
If you’re selfish, and you lack understanding of how to relate with a man or woman in marriage, your marriage won’t be successful even if you are married to an angel.
Many have wondered why so many acclaimed will of God marriages fail. It is so because the parties involved thought that their marriage will automatically be successful without their involvement – of the battles they both have to fight, of their mutual commitment, of their selflessness, of the sacrifices they both have to make, and the unconditional love that must reign in their union.
Will the will of God make me experience a successful marriage?
Yes, it’s possible!
When you are the right person, and you are married to the right person, and you both apply the right principles in marriage, and with the involvement of the right person – God, your marriage will be successful.
You cannot be a wrong person and would expect God to give you His choice in marriage, or have a successful marriage.
Let me ask you this question: Can you marry the kind of person you have become?
If you can’t marry you, then there’s more work to do on yourself.
This thing called the will of God in marriage is h-a-r-d, but with His help and grace, it is possible.
You can’t make the kingdom of God by doing your thing, you must do His will; how much more it is to know the will of God in marriage, and to marry suit.
I pray for every single men and women reading this, and for myself that God will strengthen us to do His will, and that our lives will go according to His will.
